Just wanted to share with you my recent experience with my life insurance. I opened it about 9 years ago when my father died unexpectedly leaving my mother with almost no means for leaving. He was the one bringing the money in and in reality he had no significant savings or any assets to leave behind, so the situation of my mother got quite dire at that time. She's a strong woman and made her way through, with the help of her sons and relatives too of course, but for me, having my own family I at once thought that I wouldn't want to get my family end up in a similar situation should something happen to me. So I went and opened that insurance and was paying it regularly since. During the years my perception somewhat changed to end up where I've been today, namely that I perceive life insurance as a tool working based on fear and that I don't want to be dependent on fear. I also think it is a way of relying on some external power to take care of your stuff, instead of proactively working on solving it yourself. So in a way it is quite disempowering thing to have such an insurance. So a few weeks ago I decided to cancel my insurance, withdraw the means that I invested in it till the moment and buy gold instead with it. I consulted my idea with my wife and she agreed, saying that it makes for her more sense as well. Initially I was thinking about a physical gold, but then by doing some research I decided to go into gold stocks for the beginning and try to multiply the investment. Then with the time I'd invest given part of it into physical gold. This would be my insurance for my family - an insurance that would be under my and my wife's control and which feels empowering indeed.
